As many of you know, my mother has always been the caregiver, hard-working, never-stop, take-care-of-everything superwoman! For the last 5 years, 365 days a year, she has worked every day without missing one day!
In the beginning of October, she was becoming very exhausted. We chalked it up to her not being a spring chicken anymore. Then, as time went on, confusion and memory loss began to set in. Everyone attempted to convince Mom to go to the doctor, but if you know my mom, she is stubborn as hell! I finally convinced Mom to go to the ER on October 21st. She spent 18 hours in the ER while they did a battery of tests, CAT scans, and an MRI. On Oct 22nd, I got the phone call from the doctor before she even went in to tell my mom what was going on.
It was the most devastating news no child wants to hear, no matter how old you are! I literally dropped to my knees in a pile of cow !
Your mom has stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to multiple organs, bone, and her brain. I scheduled the next flight out to PA!
Since then, every week I have been flying back and forth from Florida to PA due to the fact I must continue to work.
The worst of the issues currently are the tumors in her brain and the severe swelling.
The original treatment plan was to start radiation on the brain tumors, then neurosurgery to attempt to remove the largest tumor.
On Monday, she began having seizure activity. So that plan has been scrapped. The new plan is on Monday, Nov 18th, she will undergo the neurosurgery to release the pressure in her brain and attempt to remove the largest tumor causing the most neurological symptoms.
As for now, that is all we know. It was Mom's choice to go forward with treatment and to attempt to fight, as is her true nature. I know she will not give up without a fight! I am well aware of the prognosis and have come to terms with it. I have told Mom, when she feels she is done, I fully accept her decision and, of course, will always be her biggest advocate!
Any help to offset the medical expenses, her travel expenses, and help financially since she is no longer able to work is greatly appreciated!
If you are able to help, thank you! If not, that is okay! Just keep my mom and our family in your thoughts, prayers, or whatever you may believe in! Send all the good vibes, juju... we need it all!
Thank you all for the support!
