Hey there everyone…..
As most of you know my mom Linda is one of the most kindest hardworking people you’ve probably ever met. She has beat cancer 3 times……. Yes, you heard me correctly 3 times. If you didn’t know my mom found out December of 2024 that she had breast cancer for a third time; just about 6 months to a year after being cleared 100% from Dr. Cawley from the first two times of twenty five years…. Amongst all of this my dad had fallen in June of 2024 and broken his ribs, dislocated his fingers, and ended up in the hospital/nursing home on and off for months. Where he continued to decline from there up until his passing May 24th, 2025.
She said to Dr. Cawley that she was done and she wanted to cut the breast off so she didn’t have to chance dealing with it for a fourth time. So she proceeded from there with a double mastectomy and a reconstructive surgery option. Meeting with a team of doctors. Dr. Cawley, Dr. Bahti, & Dr. Hernandez. So we go through with that on Valentine’s Day…… A few weeks go by and then BOOM COMPLICATIONS. We go to the er because something isn’t right. We get sent back home, fast forward we are back in the er 3 more times in the same week bc something still isn’t right and we just aren’t comfortable with her staying at home any longer without answers. Come to find out she has infection in one of the implants and has to have it removed. A couple more weeks go by and we go back to the er same thing with the other side. Now we are back in dr Hernandez office and we have both implants out.
In the process of all of the er visits and infection finds and implant removals we find out she is in afib and having issues with her right knee….. now she has to have a knee revision because the barrings in the knee have a recall. She goes and has the knee revision surgery and does that hospital/nursing home stay and then goes back to work after recovery from that but still in afib.
The knee revision is done she rehabs from that gets back to work and still fighting with infections from the implants (but they are healing) and trying different procedures and medication to get her out of afib. After two failed attempts with one being a minor procedure and the other being a hospital stay with monitored medication. They went in and shocked her heart twice and pulled her out of afib.
Fast forward to the beginning of this year I do believe we get the all clear from the cancer doctors, the heart doctors. She goes to plan a cruise for April of this year with my aunt and then wouldn’t ya know BOOM …….. something else has to pop up.
My mom started having trouble walking/standing here about 12ish+ weeks ago. She started seeing her doctors again for concerns and going to the er for pain management bc her pain meds were not cutting it any more. She started to develop pockets of fluid around her artificial knee and has also formed a knot but the scans don’t show much of anything other than pockets of fluid. They have done extensive tests to see if there is infection and there isn’t. They have also tried to stick a giant ass needle in her knee where a pocket of fluid is and nothing came out in the syringe.
This woman has absolutely stumped the orthopedic surgeon, the infectious disease doctor, the MAYO CLINIC and all other medical professionals in these buildings and hospitals to the point that Dr. Lane said he doesn’t like to do exploratory surgery but he thinks that’s the route he’s going to have to take. This surgery is going to have to take part in two steps. The first one being going in to remove the hardware that’s “bad” causing her issues and going in and clean out the surrounding area and see what else is or could be the issue. She then has to have a spacer put in for 6 weeks before she can have a new artificial knee put in and start the road to recovery with this second full knee replacement again! That meaning she’s going to be off work even longer (12+ possible more weeks) because he said he would be doing it in the next two to three weeks.
If it hasn’t been for the help of her friends Neil and Priscilla coming and getting her and taking her to and from doctors appointments for me when I work or when I am getting Walter from school and helping get Walter from school on Fridays!! They have helped in so many ways that we are forever grateful and will never be able to repay them but would love to be able to give back to them to because they have helped us out so much!!!
My mom has not been to work in 12ish+ weeks. She’s a Hair Dresser of 40+ years and just started to sub in the schools as a cook so she could get by financially since my dad passed away a year ago. Her SSi doesn’t cover all of her Expenses. Especially since my dad has been gone. She has been trying to get things caught up. She gets them caught up then something happens and she has to take off work. Then she’s back to work then something happens. She cannot catch a break, I am doing what I can to help pay the bills right now. But I have my own bills to pay and cannot afford two sets of bills for very long. We never expected for any of these extra issues to happen. If you would be willing to help us cover some of my mom’s bills like her car, mortgage or utilities because she’s falling behind on all right now. Just the smallest amount would help. We appreciate you.. thank you so much.
