Help Linda Build a Shelter for Malaysian Dogs and Cats
Donation protected

Please help me help my Malaysian rescue friend Linda establish a shelter for rescued dogs and cats from the streets of Kuching, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo.
UPDATE as of 7/7/24 -- The land has been cleared and gravel spread. Linda has purchased concrete tiles which will be the flooring that goes directly on the gravel! Construction styles in Malaysia are very different than in the West and are much cheaper. The walls and ceiling will be made from Spandek, the white paneling you see in the pic....Linda has been able to get some used pieces too!
Now I am asking for donations to buy the rest of the Spandek, as well as angle, batten, and hollow which form the support structure....the equivalent of $2500. Thank you for your support!
UPDATE as of 6/20/24 -- the dog catchers from the local government have not been back to take the dogs from Linda, thankfully and hopefully they stay away for a while. Linda has negotiated a reasonable price to clear 1/3 acre of her land. After clearing, the building will start.
Linda has land but needs to build a facility for her 40 dogs and 10 cats. Right now, they are all in her home but a neighbor complained and now the government has given her just a week to clear out all but 3 dogs or they will confiscate and kill them --- only 3 dog are allowed in a home. She is working with a lawyer (also a dog helper) to hopefully get an extension!
There are so many dogs and cats on the streets of Malaysia and I got involved last summer when visiting Kuching for a primate conference. Linda was the only person willing to meet me and help me rescue two puppies (pictured), one of whom now lives with her at her in-home shelter (the other sadly passed from rabies after an adult dog bit her, just an hour before our rescue).
Rabies is a problem now and the government shoots dogs on the street without question, regardless of their rabies status, even if they have tags showing that they are vaccinated.
It is also very hard to find adopters for adult dogs as people want puppies --- and abandon their dogs once they grow up! The dogs and cats suffer from unimaginable injuries.
I help Linda with her vet bills and she's been so busy with rescue that she hasn't had time to do the paperwork and raise funds and build a real shelter but with the threat of dog confiscation looming, the time has come to make it happen.
Linda has an estimate that $5000 is enough to clear the land and build a facility. Can you please help me help Linda and the dogs (and cats)?
Thank you for your donation!
