Help Lily walk again and fight against IVDD

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Elayne, and this little Dachshund is my baby girl, Lily. Lily was born deaf, but that hasn’t stopped her from having fun. She’s a very adventurous puppy, 6 years old, and loves playing with ping pong balls and spending time with her sisters.

On Monday, June 24th, 2024, I took her out for her morning walk and noticed she had a hard time walking. I thought she was just tired from our long walk at the park on Sunday. By Tuesday morning, her left leg seemed weak, and she didn’t want to step on it. That evening, around 7 PM, we took her to the ER vet because she kept losing her balance and couldn’t control her left leg anymore. We noticed she was also in pain. At the ER, they diagnosed her with stage 3 Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) and suggested she might need surgery. They gave her pain medication and prescriptions for inflammation and recovery.

The next day, Wednesday, we woke up early to check on her, and things had worsened. She had no control over either of her back legs and was in a lot of pain with significant inflammation. We went straight to a neurologist, who recommended immediate surgery because she had progressed to stage 4. If she reached stage 5, she might never walk again, live in pain, or need to be put down.

We decided she still had a lot of life to live and joy to bring, so she got the surgery she needed. The surgery cost around $11,000 and with medications and doctor visits + physical therapy it all adds up to about 14,000. Thankfully the surgery went well with no complications. Now, we need to ensure she gets professional therapy, make her home safe and comfortable, and prevent this from happening again with some preventive medicine.

We all know how expensive things are and the cost of living nowadays, we took out a loan to help pay the bills and we are so blessed to have people in our lives we can count on.

We are not expecting to cover all the expenses or the full $11,000 for the surgery with the donations. We appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you for your time and effort; we know times are tough. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! ❤️‍
