Help Lily Recover from a Brutal Attack
Donation protected
Hi, this is my baby Lily and I am her mama Lisa. On Sunday, June 30th, at approximately 9:50 am, when we were walking down the hallway of my enclosed apartment building to take Lily outside for a walk, she was brutally attacked by 2 pit bulls. The front door opened and the first dog grabbed her and then a 2nd even bigger dog grabbed her. All dogs were on leashes but the first dog somehow slipped out of its harness. The neighbor jumped on the dogs and got them off of Lily, saving her life, but she didn’t come out okay. She’s only about 12 pounds and they were both well over 100 pounds each, I’m sure. The neighbor was also bitten to the bone.
Lily suffered 3 fractures to her mandible (lower jaw), 1 being an open fracture coming out of her mouth and it was broken in half. This left her jaw hanging with no movement. She also suffered multiple puncture wounds on her abdomen with one possibly puncturing her abdominal wall. That X-ray was inconclusive and has to be repeated. If it did indeed puncture her abdominal wall, she will require another emergency surgery to repair it as well, as it will be fatal if not repaired.
Her jaw was repaired (bones wired together and 2 teeth pulled just to get to the other side of the bone) yesterday by a specialist near Chicago, IL so that was a long ride for her there and back in itself with the pain she is experiencing. She has been placed on a special recovery food (it’s about 4 dollars per can) that she has to be fed by syringe for the next 14 days along with multiple meds (antibiotics and pain meds). We have had to buy special cleansers for her wounds and also multiple other things for comfort referred by the ER Doctor at the University of Illinois Veterinary School.
The U of I Hospital nor the Vet Specialist near Chicago take payment from outside which I don’t understand but they don’t, I was going to try to make it where people could donate directly to them. Lily’s surgery yesterday alone was right at 4000 when you add in the crate we had to get for the ride there and back, the gas, and all of that. The surgery itself was 3700. She has never been in a crate, (she is my baby, she’s the Queen around here and free to do what she wants inside of these walls) but she had to have the crate to go there.
She has to go back in 4-6 weeks and be put under again for more testing and scans to make sure all 3 fractures healed correctly. 1 of the bones will need surgically removed at that time if it didn’t heal on its own. To some, this may seem small but I live alone with my baby, the cost of living is outrageous along with food and everything else. I barely make it. All of these visits and surgeries had to be paid on the spot. No payment plans and I didn’t qualify for Care Credit because I simply don’t make enough money with the rest of my bills I guess.
So I am coming to all of you in hopes that you can help my Lily because I really do not have enough money to pay for the rest of these procedures or to pay back most of what has already been paid on the things already done. Anything will help, all dollars count even if it’s only a dollar. I’ve never had to ask for this kind of help before and I don’t like asking now but Lily is so special to me. She’s my emotional support animal, she’s so loving and so fun, she’s mama's baby, she’s my world, my life, everyone who has met her loves her. She’s so smart and so funny. I thought I lost her that day and thank God I didn’t. Now it’s up to me to get her all fixed up and back to her normal self. So please, again, every dollar counts. I wouldn’t have made this if I didn’t desperately need the help. So thank you to all of you that help in one way or another. All prayers for Lily are certainly asked for and appreciated as well. Please share this if you can. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the dollars, the prayers, the shares, whatever it is that you are able to do.
