Hi, I'm Laura,
I'm raising money for my dog Lily, who needs help raising money for life saving surgery to prolong her life or at best save her life.
3 weeks ago, I found a swelling over Lily's pelvis but this was slight and not noticeable. I brought her into the vets for an investigation, samples from the lump were taken and she had CT scan. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer.
I was told that this cancer was most likely a Liposarcoma, this is a soft tissue sarcoma that grows from fatty tissues. This tumour is extremely rare and unusual. Even more so by the fact its grown from within her glute muscle.
Due to the size of the tumour being bigger than expected, I was told surgery to remove was not an option and we would have to manage her but her days were numbered and would have to be put to sleep sooner rather than later.
As you can imagine, me and my partner were heartbroken and started the stages of grief. This was more painful by the fact that Lily is only 6 years old, full of life, healthy and so happy to meet everyone and anyone.
On Friday, we were offered a life line to save her life.
Lily's case vet asked for a second opinion from a referrals vets based in Essex. They said they could remove the cancerous lump but it would be difficult and very complex but doable. She would also need radiation therapy for a month, 3 times a week. They think this treatment plan will benefit her and give the best chance of a normal life.
We have been given an estimate for £10,000 - £15,000.
Lily Is insured up to £6,000. We used up £2,000 for a different surgery, Another £2,000 on getting Lily's diagnosis so unfortunately we only have £2,000 left. This is nowhere near enough what we need to give her her life saving surgery.
Family and friends have come to our aid to pull savings together but its not enough.
This is when I turn to you for help! I have no intentions of raising the full £15k, enough to cover fuel bills of travelling up an down from London, hotel rooms and extra bits would be a massive help!
I rescued Lily when she was 2 years old from Dogs Trust. I was dealing with severe anxiety and depression and really struggled to leave the house. She was so scared and shy in the beginning, I saw a lot of myself in her and soon as we saw each other, I knew how much I needed her. She took my heart on the first day we met. We learned how to trust and love the little things in life and blossomed over the years and have since rebuilt my life with my faithful companion by my side. I wouldn't be here today without her.
She has help me through so much, I at least owe her the chance to live.
Thank you for reading Lily's and my story xx
