Our favorite "personal fairy godmother" Lilly Huggins needs our help!
Suffering from a ruptured silicone breast implant, Lilly is scheduled for surgery on September 4th and needs to cover medical expenses for extraction, reconstruction, and recovery time!
Medicare (OHP) only partially covers the complex procedures
We need to help her cover the excruciating co-pay and getting her time to rest and truly heal!
$12,667 is the out of pocket expense due before surgery, (thanks American healthcare system!)
After that, Lilly anticipates needing between $2,000 and $10,000 to cover living expenses, follow up appointments, and loss of work while she slowly regains mobility and range of motion.
Lilly will be entirely unable to work for at least six weeks while healing, and will be left with limited mobility for up to a year during full recovery.
As a curator, hairstylist, artist, promoter, handiwoman (...the list goes on), Lilly relies on her arms, hands, and mobility to help make the world a more beautiful place, so let's help her get there!
The Long Version: Lilly has been suffering many health effects ranging from fatigue, and unexplainable muscle weakness, to chronic pain and deep muscular itch.
Much of this has been centered around her right shoulder, rib and pectoral area.
For years, Lilly struggled with doctors who didn't listen, didn't take her seriously, and weren't proactive about her health.
In June, after much digging, endless doctors' appointments, and deep dives into her blood work, chronic conditions, and physical abilities - Lilly finally received a mammogram which showed that her right breast implant was leaking into her pectoral area and all the way up to her shoulder!
An MRI confirmed it most likely has been leaking for a few years.
Lilly's doctor sent an emergency referral for removal. Given others' experiences with similar issues, she suspects that not only is her chronic pain related in her right shoulder due to this, but even her fatigue may be related to a leaking breast implant.
The surgery is long and complicated.
Both sub-pectoral implants will be removed as well as the capsules (scar tissue surrounding implants) and the silicone that has oozed out over time.
Remaining breast tissue will be used to reconstruct the area.
At this point, Lilly is unable to work without pain for more than 5-10 minutes of a work day, deeply impacting her ability to design and stage homes, source for her vintage booth, do arts, cut hair, and engage in social activity. Lilly has gotten to the point with her pain and chronic fatigue that some days she cannot even leave the house, let alone work and make a living.
As we all know - one of the most important things to Lilly is supporting and showing up for her community. Not being able to attend and promote events, and engage in social activities with her community has had a deep impact on her mental and physical health.
Lilly describes her life as a shadow of what it once was, and what she knows it can be. Help Lilly get back to her most vibrant, eclectic self by donating today!
Together, we can rebuild her! We have the technology!
