This is Tiger Lilly. She is six years old. When I first met Lilly, I was living in North Carolina and she had just retired from racing in Miami. She was three years old when she came into my life and she's been my girl ever since. We've traveled across the country together and spent countless hours nestled next to one another. Lilly is 100% pure happiness. She brings tranquility and a sense of peace into every environment. She is the goofiest goober I’ve ever met. She is all smiles. She is love. She is my love. She’s my girl. She’s Lucy’s girl.
Each time I share with someone that Lilly, my sweet, loving greyhound, has bone cancer, it becomes more real to me. My heart breaks. She doesn’t deserve this pain and suffering. But Lilly does deserve more time – she has so much love left to give. So many more smiles to share.
One day Lilly was zooming around the neighborhood and the next she woke up limping and crying. Three days later I was told by the vet that she has osteosarcoma. A tumor was found in her front left leg – leaving amputation as the only option.
If you know me, you know that my dogs, Lucy and Lilly, are my two best friends. The three of us are inseparable. The second that Lucy and Lilly met, they were immediately bonded. Lucy’s anxiety faded. Lilly learned how to be a dog. And no two beings had ever brought me such constant smiles.

As a retired racer, all Lilly knew was being crated and being on race tracks. When Lilly came home with us she didn’t know how to go up and down stairs or jump on the couch. She was afraid of hardwood floors and refused to leave the 7’x10’ area rug. She didn’t know what a ball or a bone was. Lilly was overwhelmed and shy at first, but every single day she learned something new and her personality grew.

Lilly will need to learn how to do all those things over again with three legs. And she deserves the time to learn. Lilly deserves more beach days, naps with Lucy, car rides and cookies. Lilly’s time to spread joy is not over.

The three of us will be eternally grateful for your love and support throughout this. Whatever contribution you can make – a donation, social media share, virtual hug, positive vibes – is appreciated so much. She will be the most adorable three-legged greyhound zooming around the beach again soon.
