Hi, I'm Lilly S.'s partner. Two weeks ago, Lilly came to me and our mutual partner Jen and told us she was struggling with a mental health crisis. We won't get into the details out of respect of her dignity and privacy, but it was decided that the best course of action was to take her to the emergency room at John Hopkins Medical Center. She was admited to the psychiatric emergency room. She was supposed to eventually be moved out of there into the psych ward, but that did not end up happening. Due to reasons we still aren't fully sure of, Lilly's insurance paperwork with her work wasn't processed despite us believing it to be so.
Because of this, the hospital was having difficulties finding a bed to put her in. Not just at John Hopkins but any other nearby hospital. As a result of this, Lilly was forced to spend 3 days in an emergency room with no significant contact to the outside. It was a traumatizing experience for her, and eventually it was decided that it was best for her to simply be released back to us. Once we got her back home, we started working on finding a way to get her the care she needed.
Unfortunately, the news wasn't good. She was denied emergency Medicaid, on the grounds that she has access to insurance from work, even though she doesn't have it currently. Trying to figure out how to get her work insurance stuff fixed has also been a struggle. To add a cherry on top of everything, today the emergency room bill came in. The total cost of the stay was $2,161.30. This is, as you can expect, a very large expense for us all, especially as we're also trying to find a way to get her into some sort of therapy out of pocket.
So, this is where we humbly ask for your support and help. While we can try to get a payment plan going for her emergency room bill, we still need to take care of some amount of it now. For the immediate future, this means money is going to be tight. If you feel like you have any amount of money to spare, even as little as $5, we would very much appreciate your generocity in donating. If you can't, we completely understand. We simply ask that you share this fundraiser where you can. We would really, really appreciate it.
