Help Lilly Become 'Stronger Than Yesterday'

My beautiful niece, Lilly, has recently been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. Lilly is your typical 14 year old girl who enjoys spending time with her friends, watching scary movies with her dad, goofing around with her younger sister, and cuddling on the couch with her mom and Teddy, her K-9 companion - but sadly, Lilly has been secretly battling an illness that has caused her to drastically lose over 60 pounds within the last 5 months.
Anorexia is a complex illness - a serious medical and mental health condition - that impacts women, men, adolescents and children. It does not discriminate. Anorexia nervosa is a brain disorder. It can be life-threatening without treatment. Anorexia nervosa is not a function of will, it is a biologically based illness influenced by the environment, as well as genetics.
The good news is that, with proper treatment, a full and lasting recovery from anorexia is possible. Treatment requires a specialized, multidisciplinary team who will provide medical, nutritional and psychological support.
Due to the severity of her illness, Lilly will be spending the next 5 to 6 months at an eating recovery center in Denver in order to get the proper treatment to help her become ‘stronger than yesterday'.
I want my sister and Kevin to be able to focus on Lilly's recovery - not the financial stressors that will incur. Even with health insurance, the medical bills, lodging and meal expenses, airfare and travel costs will be overwhelming. My goal is to help raise money to help alleviate some of the stress and expenses.
My sister and Kevin are not asking for financial help; but I know my sister is worried sick because she will be taking unpaid FMLA leave from her teaching position to be with Lilly in Denver. Teri is a preschool special education teacher and sees firsthand how physical and mental illnesses can cause stress on an entire family.
I understand that times are tough and money can be tight, but anything can and will help. Please pray for Lilly and her family as they begin this difficult journey.
God Bless You.
