Help Lilith get essential gender-affirming surgery

Bonjour amores,

My name is Lilith and I am a trans woman living in London, though I have plans to move to Spain soon. I started my transition to live as my true self about a year ago. Those close to me will know that I have been putting so much effort and energy into transitioning, not solely by choice, but by necessity.

When I was finally given the tools and the voice to say I am a woman and always have been, there was no other way for me than to live as my authentic self. This journey of self-discovery has been incredible, but also violent in many ways. As I began my transition, I realised what it meant to live in a society in which you're not able to count on institutional or societal support, one in which you need to rely on your own will and aspirations as well as on your community and support network. The obstacles and brutality compounded with other issues, including my dysphoria, led me to being diagnosed with depression a few months ago. I am now on medication and have been in therapy for many years, but I also know, deep down, that there are some further steps I could take to help me deal with this.

I have been very pleased with the results of hormone therapy on my feminisation so far, but I have also realised that there are some facial features that hormones will never touch that cause me much dysphoria and get in the way of my feeling beautiful and fully myself. It is for that reason that, after careful consideration and much introspection, I have decided to go ahead with Facial Feminisation Surgery with a surgeon in France. I am looking at getting chin, forehead and lip surgery as well as Adam's apple reduction. My intention is to look and feel more like myself, as my reflection in the mirror feels discordant to how I feel inside and not a true reflection of who I am. My aim is to move towards the truest version of myself, as my current appearance does not quite match that.

As a French citizen, I am lucky that I am able to get surgery in France at a reduced cost than in other countries, but there will still be fees I will need help with. I have been working as a teacher for some time, but I now work at the French Institute on a 0-hour contract, meaning I also won't get paid at all while recovering from surgery (at least a month). I have been able to save some money by working extra hours, but life in London, other transition-related fees (electrolysis, administrative changes, hormones, voice training etc.) as well as my plans to move out of London, have made it difficult to save enough money to fully finance my surgery by myself.

My mum, dad, and brother have been absolute angels and I am truly blessed to have their unconditional love and support, a privilege I am very aware of, but, coming from a modest background, the financial hurdles get in the way of how much they want to give and assist me.

So, it is you that I send my message to, my community and my support network, so that you assist me with financing essential surgery that will allow me to fully blossom into the woman that I am.
