Help Lightning Ridge Animal Welfare

Hello animal lovers of planet earth. 

My name is Dorothy Thompson known as ‘Dottie’, I came to Lightning Ridge over 30 years ago and became aware of one major shortfall. No vets, no groomers, no boarding kennels or any help for the domestic and wild creatures if they became sick, orphaned or injured. 

I started helping any animal I could and became known as Dotties animal shelter, over the years the kids of Lightning Ridge and my family have seen the best and worst in the humans but I will try to continue although there are still no vets or affordable help for the mainly senior population. I am now 75 years of age, my husband is 85 and can no longer afford to carry on as the pension can only go so far. I have on average around 50 rescues every week and I’ve been on call to assist 24/7 for over 30+ years. I really need volunteers but red tape has stopped the school sending high school kids and now because of covid I am not receiving anymore donations from our local hospital or supermarket IGA, they have been very generous but even that source has dried up. Our money and energy is running out.
