Help Lift Our Family After Two Unexpected Losses

Donation protected
Three months ago, our family experienced a sudden and heartbreaking loss when my father passed away unexpectedly at just 62 years old. He did not have life insurance or burial coverage, and the full cost of funeral expenses fell onto our family. We were still processing that loss – emotionally and financially – when tragedy struck again.

Just two weeks ago, my younger brother passed away suddenly at the age of 34 due to complications from pneumonia. He was otherwise healthy, and his passing was completely unexpected. Like my father, he had no life insurance or burial coverage, and once again, our family has been faced with the full financial responsibility of funeral expenses, while still recovering from the burden of the first.

My parents and brother lived together. While my parents had been separated for many years, they remained close friends and had been living together again for the past few years to support one another. Neither remarried, and both were living on fixed disability incomes. I live separately with my wife and children.

Now, after losing both her longtime companion and her son within a matter of months, my mother is living alone. She is 70 years old, disabled, and wheelchair-bound. She has undergone two knee replacements and back surgery, and while she can stand briefly, she is unable to walk and requires assistance with many daily tasks.

Compounding this hardship, my mother and brother had moved into a new home less than two weeks before my brother’s passing. The home was largely unfurnished and lacked many basic necessities, and much of what they did have was old or unusable. In the midst of our grief, we’ve been working to make her home safer, more accessible, and more comforting – replacing worn furniture, adding essential household items, and making the space feel warm and supportive rather than a constant reminder of loss.

My mother lives on a fixed disability income. My wife and I help wherever we can, assisting with groceries, medications, household needs, and ongoing support. We have traveled a three-hour round trip several times since my brother’s passing and will continue to do so at least a few times each month to help run errands, clean, and most importantly, to check on her well-being as she navigates this overwhelming grief.

The emotional toll of losing a longtime companion and a son so close together is immeasurable. The financial burden of two funerals within three months, combined with the costs of supporting and adapting my mother’s living situation, has been heavy on our entire family.

This fundraiser is not something we ever imagined needing to create. We are humbly asking for support to help ease the financial strain during this incredibly difficult time. Donations will help with funeral-related expenses, home accessibility needs, and ongoing support for my mother as she adjusts to life after so much loss.

Any donation, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to give financially, prayers, kind thoughts, and sharing this fundraiser mean more than we can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you’re able to offer during this season of grief and healing.

God bless!
