My name is Carter Veldevere, and I am 23 years old living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a genetic neurodegenerative disease that severely weakens my muscles. I've never had the ability to stand or walk, relying entirely on others for mobility assistance. Despite these challenges, I strive to live as independently as possible and cherish every moment with my family and friends. However, we are currently facing a significant hurdle that we desperately need your help to overcome.

Due to my condition, I depend on my parents for most of my daily activities, including transferring me in and out of bed, in and out of my wheelchair and assisting with all my restroom needs. Every day for the past 23 years, they have lifted me at least two to four times daily. My parents remain my unwavering support system. However, they are in their mid-50s and are not getting any younger, and as a 150-pound adult, I am not getting any lighter. The daily physical lifting has become increasingly difficult for them. My dad now suffers from severe back issues, joint problems, and a possible hernia that may require surgery. My mom can no longer lift me without risking my safety. The last time she tried, she nearly dropped me, highlighting the urgency of our situation.

We have found a solution that would drastically improve our lives: an electric lift system. This equipment would allow my parents to transfer me safely and with ease, reducing the physical strain on them and providing me with a safer and more convenient way to be transferred. However, the cost of the electric lift system and its installation is substantial, and insurance will not cover it.

This is where we humbly ask for your help. We need to raise $20,000 to cover the cost of the electric lift system, including installation and necessary home modifications.
