Help Lieutenant Dan save his leg!

Say hello to Lieutenant  Dan.  On April 6th we spotted him fearfully peeking out of the bushes on the side of the freeway.  He had been hit by a car and left with a shattered leg.  When we approached him to help, it was clear that he had been struggling on his own for quite some time.  He was starving and afraid, but clearly wanting help.  We immediately took him to a vet for medical assistance.  They checked him for a chip and then had to turn him over to Animal Control, per county guidelines.  We checked on him everyday during the required hold time that he had to stay at that facility.  We were hoping to retrieve him ourselves, but due to the extent of his injuries they would only release him to a rescue organization.  We assisted in locating a rescue so that he could finally receive the medical attention he had been needing this whole time.  The rescue agreed to let us foster him at that point.  We have taken him to see 2 vets and also the orthopedic surgeon he was referred to for further consultation on his leg.  The surgeon believes that his leg can be saved if operated on immediately so we are doing everything in our power to make that happen.   Regardless of the outcome of  the surgery, he will have a very long journey ahead with many medical challenges.  We are assisting the rescue in raising funds to ensure that this sweet boy has the best possible chance at a healthy recovery.  Any assistance you can offer either by a small donation or by sharing this story with others would be greatly appreciated.
