Help Liesl beat breast cancer

Hello, and welcome to my GoFundMe! If you don’t already know me, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Liesl, I’m 37 years old, and in September of 2022 I was diagnosed with Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC).

What does that mean? TNBC is a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer with slightly fewer treatment options than other more common types, and Stage III means that it has spread into the lymph nodes. My prognosis is still good, but I am starting rigorous treatment immediately to prevent my cancer from spreading further and hopefully eliminate it.

This is what my current treatment plan looks like:

Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy - This involves receiving weekly infusions intended to shrink my tumors before surgery. This is scheduled to last for 20 weeks.

Surgery - Depending on how successful chemo is, surgery could be to remove just the tumor or potentially to remove one or both breasts. Recovery after surgery before starting the next treatment step can be anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks.

Radiation - This step will destroy any remaining cancer cells that aren’t removed with surgery. It consists of 5 sessions a week for 5 to 6 weeks.

Adding all that up, it looks like I’ll be spending 7 or 8 months, maybe more, in treatment where I will not be able to work consistently and may not have the energy or capacity to work at all.

This is where you can help! I’m asking for assistance during this time period when I will not be able to provide for myself financially. Any donations will help me cover the cost of:

Medical expenses - Fortunately, I have coverage for most of the primary cancer treatments, but there are some things that aren’t covered. Also, I’m on my last pair of contacts with no vision coverage.

Rent and utilities - Bay area rent is expensive, but I need to stay near my current medical providers so my treatment plan is not interrupted.

Transportation - I’ll need to pay for gas, insurance, loan payments, and other car maintenance needs

Food and miscellaneous expenses - I have some assistance with food for myself, but I also have a very fluffy cat, Midnight, who insists on being fed as well!
