Earlier this year our family was shocked to learn that our mum Lidija had been diagnosed with two brain aneurysms that could burst at any time. She needs an essential procedure to stop them from bursting and prematurely ending her life. We need your help to raise £23,000 to pay for her life-saving procedure.
At Christmas in 2020, she started having severe headaches every day. They would last most of the day and would keep her awake at night. She was finding it hard to function due to the pain and lack of rest.
During the summer of 2020, she retired from her work as a Social Work Lecturer in the UK and moved back to Croatia (the country of her birth) where she lives with our dad. She went to see a neurologist who sent her for an MRI. He found a large aneurysm in her brain, which is essentially an enlarged blood vessel. The doctor said if it bursts, which is very possible, it can cause death or serious brain damage. She was terrified by the news (as were we all). She tried to continue her care in Croatia but was unable to as she kept being passed from one specialist to the next without a clear plan for treatment or prognosis.
Some close family friends put us in touch with a world-class neurology clinic in Tübingen, Germany, where she would receive the best care possible. They referred her for a Digital Subtraction Angiogram, which is an invasive but very accurate type of angiogram. It revealed the exact location and size of the first brain aneurysm and uncovered a second smaller brain aneurysm close by. The specialist said that treatment is necessary and can be done with a procedure that involves implanting ‘platinum coils’ in the large aneurysm and a ‘flow diverting stent’ into the smaller aneurysm.
Our mum has sacrificed so much for us but we sadly cannot afford to get her the care she needs on our own. We need your help to raise the £23,000 for her procedure. Every little bit you donate will help us get closer to being able to restore her health.
Our mum was a Child Protection Social Worker and Social Work Lecturer for many years, devoting her life to helping others and protecting children that couldn’t protect themselves.

She has always been there for the three of us and is also a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren. We are so blessed to have her in our lives and she is an incredible role model to us.
This life-saving procedure will cost around £23,000. All donations will be greatly received and go directly towards the treatment.
Thank you for your help.
