Hi, my name is Libny Padilla. I’m 32 years old and living with multiple chronic illnesses.

This week, my colorectal surgeon told me I need to undergo a total proctocolectomy. This is a major surgery where both my colon (large intestine) and rectum are removed.

Because I already have an ileostomy, this surgery means:

• My ileostomy will become permanent

• My anus will be permanently closed (perineal closure)

• All digestion and waste will permanently exit through my stoma

In simple terms, this surgery is necessary for my health and survival.

While I’m incredibly grateful to have insurance, staying alive is expensive. I currently pay over $1,500 every month for health insurance and copays. On top of that, my insurance requires a large deductible for this surgery, which is the amount I’m asking help with through this fundraiser.

Esta semana, mi cirujano colorrectal me informó que necesito someterme a una proctocolectomía total. Esta es una cirugía mayor en la que se extrae completamente el colon (intestino grueso) y el recto.

Debido a que ya tengo una ileostomía, esta cirugía implica que:

• Mi ileostomía será permanente

• El ano se cerrará de manera permanente (cierre perineal)

• Toda la eliminación de desechos se hará a través del estoma

En términos simples, esta cirugía es necesaria para poder seguir con vida y tener una mejor calidad de vida.

Aunque agradezco tener seguro médico, estar viva es muy costoso. Actualmente pago más de $1,500 al mes entre el seguro médico y los copagos. Además, mi seguro me exige pagar un deducible elevado para esta cirugía, que es la cantidad para la cual estoy solicitando ayuda a través de esta recaudación.
