As some of you know, I was accepted into veterinary school last year! What most people don’t know is that, a few months before I was set to leave, I received unexpected news: my prerequisite coursework from my undergraduate degree had expired. Because of that, I had to defer my acceptance for a year while I re-take those courses.

Right now, I’m enrolled at UMass finishing my prerequisites so I can officially start vet school next fall. The only problem is that, as a non-degree student, I don’t qualify for federal student loans and only receive minimal financial aid — which I’ve already used. The total cost of my prerequisite coursework is $30,000.

I’ve tried everything — applying for private loans, seeking a cosigner — but my parents already carry significant student loan debt for my three siblings, and I’ve been denied for lack of a qualified cosigner. This GoFundMe is truly my last option to close this gap in funding and keep my dream alive.

Becoming a veterinarian has been my dream for as long as I can remember. What once felt impossible is now just within reach — I’m so close. I’ve worked hard for over a decade to get here, balancing jobs, volunteering, and returning to school at 34 to make it happen.

Those who know me know how much I love animals — but more than that, I love people. Helping people through helping their pets is my greatest passion. To care for the people in my community by caring for their animals is my ultimate goal.

Every dollar brings me one step closer to being able to do that.
