Help me fund the computer I need to make magical free audiobooks and get listed in the podcast credits as sponsor of the project!

 

Hi there! My name is Liana and I am a creative. I've got some big projects coming up and I need a computer that I can make them on.

 

What am I making?

 

Free audiobook podcasts.

 

You see at the start of 2020 I co-created and directed an impromptu dramatic audiobook of Pride and Prejudice in order to keep the local not-for-profit theatre company I'm part of, active during the pandemic. Each of the characters in the podcast was voiced by a different actor. Everyone recorded their parts and I assembled them together, learning to sound edit, and publishing our work an episode at a time on all the major streaming platforms. It was a big hit internationally, has been downloaded more than 200,000 times, helped the theatre company stay active and maintain a small amount of much needed financial input, kept a bunch of actors active and built their skills, and was announced as a Webby Award Honoree in the 25th Annual Webby Awards (Limited Series Podcast - Scripted Fiction).

 

The good things I can do with more podcasts like this really excite me and I am ready to make more.

 

So why do I want help?

 

Making the Pride and Prejudice Podcast was not a fun experience on my computer, which has aged even more since. Some days, it can take 2-3 hours just to boot up. Even when it was a little younger during Pride and Prejudice it would crash, struggle with the file sizes we were working with and triple my workload. That's a daunting prospect and the way to solve it is with a new computer that has more space and power than the one I've got.

 

That computer is a Macbook Pro and it costs as much as the fundraising goal for this project.

 

That computer is also out of my price range.

 

So let me tell you about the projects. I'm now ready to adapt 3 audiobooks and have more in the pipeline.

The actors I'm seeking for these productions will be as diverse as our community is, particularly for Alice in Wonderland which I am hoping to explore queer themes and make available as an offering for our local queer festivals. Recording from home makes performance accessible to people who may be shy, immune-compromised or face physical barriers to getting into the theatre. My favourite thing about making these audiobooks are the opportunities for diversity and accessibility.

 

I've applied for multiple grants to bring these projects to life, but haven't been successful. I'm also financially backing the projects as much as I can, and I'm asking you to back them as well. Join me to make it happen!
