Help Liana get to UWC and her Study Abroad course

Liana has received full scholarships based on academic merit to two different educational programs, but needs airfare to get to each of them!

1. CIEE's High School Summer Abroad - Climate Change Mitigation in Costa Rica.

Here Liana will spend three weeks on a 150 acre farm to learn the "high-tech science of carbon and climate change". This is a topic she is passionate about and Costa Rica is one of the world's leaders in making positive changes. In recent years, Liana has spoken about our responsibilities as a whole at the New Mexico Capitol during a climate change rally and was quoted in the New Mexican. It is also part of her reason for committing to a vegan diet for the past two years.

For safety, her flights will be with a group of other CIEE students traveling from the US and costs $1,400

2. United World College (UWC) - Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Liana set the goal of attending a UWC at the age of 12. The schools are commonly referred to as "Hogwarts for hippies" and are some of the top boarding schools in the world. There are 18 of them globally and they all share the mission of “making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future”.

This past year at the age of 15, Liana applied all on her own with multiple essays, interviews, and months of ongoing submissions. She was not only accepted, but received a Davis scholarship. She will be representing the US in beautiful Mostar which was "the first UWC set up with the explicit aim to assist in the reconstruction of a post-conflict society". Her scholarship covers her remaining two years of high school which means she will graduate with an International Baccalaureate.

Due to the distance, I would like to travel with her to Mostar to assure she gets there safely. As someone who has never even had a passport before, this is all exciting, overwhelming, and a little scary.

Her one way flight is $800 and my round trip is $1,300

Anything you can contribute to our airfare is greatly appreciated. Not only is this a once in a lifetime experience for Liana, but I know it's the beginning of great things to come for her. She is an extremely bright and determined young woman that is committed to make our world a better place to live for all of us.
