Lian is my 5-year-old cousin who lives in Mexico. He’s full of energy, incredibly creative, and always makes us laugh with his funny personality. Just recently, while playing at home, Lian had a serious fall and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency brain surgery. It was a terrifying experience for our whole family, but we are so grateful that his surgery was successful and he is now awake and conscious. The doctors are monitoring him closely, and while he still has a long road ahead, we are hopeful for his recovery. The next steps will likely include focused care at home and possibly speech and physical therapy, but for now, we are taking things one day at a time. Lian’s parents, my aunt and uncle, are facing a hospital bill that is more than a year’s income for their family. My uncle runs a small welding shop and my aunt stays at home, running a little store, but this unexpected expense is overwhelming. Our family is coming together to donate as much as we can, but we still need more help to cover the hospital bill, groceries, and anything else Lian might need as he recovers.
