On November 8, I was on my way to see a client when I saw a man huddled on the left shoulder of highway 580 during rush-hour traffic. To my complete shock, he was trying to help a cat who was huddled on the ground, terrified and injured. With cars whizzing by, I was able to get out and assist him. I noticed clothes tossed on the other side of the freeway and quickly picked the kitty up. He was bleeding from his mouth and paws, clearly in pain and scared. I drove him straight to Oak Vet, where they deemed him stable but found multiple lacerations from the fall, a mild concussion, and signs of long-term neglect. Fast-forward to today, Liam has been in a loving foster home and recently had a follow-up veterinary appointment. His concussion is still present but improving, and all his paws and claws were scraped. He also had a large scrape on his back leg. Years of neglect left his mouth infected, and several teeth needed to be removed. Through his microchip, I traced him back to his original owner, who admitted she was overwhelmed and had given the cat away the day before. She had no information on the person she gave him to, but I believe this is the person who abandoned him on the freeway. There are no words for the outrage I feel, and I wish this person could be brought to justice. The vet bills are overwhelming, and I can’t do this alone. I’m asking anyone to donate a dollar, five dollars, whatever you can. Liam will never know anything but love, security, safety, and good health for the rest of his life. He has so many people rooting for him, and we love him dearly. Any support you can give will help Liam heal and thrive.
