Some of you already know our son Liam. He is nonverbal with autism and a rare eating disorder called ARFID. At age three, he had a traumatizing vomiting episode, and with his sensory issues, he soon stopped eating until he was down to only one food and one drink. Because of this, he required a G-tube to survive.

This year, his feeding therapy was canceled by insurance because they claimed he was not making enough progress (he was — he had begun licking and putting food items in his mouth). Because of that cancellation, we have not been able to continue his progression. His GI doctor has told us that attending this program is essential, especially at his current age, when intervention is most vital.

Liam has now been accepted into the NAPA Center in Chicago, one of the most respected intensive therapy centers in the world. Families travel from across the globe for treatment there, and Liam spent over a year on the waiting list before being accepted.

This three-week intensive program offers hope that Liam can expand his diet, learn to feed himself, and improve communication with his AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device.
