Hello! My name is Lia Thomas. I am a proud first-generation Haitian who came to America at the age of three. Durning elementary and middle school, I always excelled in science and math going on to earn multiple awards both subjects during high school. Now I am a Pre-Med student at Howard University with a real love for learning and supporting others. As I continue to grow at Howard, I have a clear plan for making a tangible impact while building toward my dermatology career. First, I'll partner with a School of Business student to create a venture that provides medical advice and educates the community, bridging the gap between medical knowledge and accessible care. I also plan to become a medical scribe for hands-on experience in the medical field while conducting research on how hair type and structure in people of color affects split ends, an often overlooked area in dermatology. On campus, I'll join multiple organizations: a modeling organization to challenge the stereotype that beauty and intelligence can't coexist, science organizations to strengthen my medical foundation, and the undergraduate dermatology organization to connect with mentors and peers. Each opportunity is a stepping stone toward becoming the kind of doctor who not only treats patients but also uplifts and educates communities.
However I can't do any of that without your help. I come from a large family and we have always struggled to keep ourselves afloat, so it's safe to say that I know the struggle of feeling like dreams are unattainable. But for the first time it felt like they were within my reach all because I got accepted into Howard. It has been my dream to attained since the beginning of my high school career and to be quite frank that dream is about to be crushed. I know tuition at Howard is a lot but I hoped to have a job in order to stay there but that plan didn't work. Now I feel as though I'm in an impossible situation with no way out without help from someone kind like you.
Please help me make my dreams and plans possible. Help me make real change.
Any donation or contribution made will go directly toward my tuition.
