LGBT Unity works to create community, safety and belonging for people seeking asylum and refugees in Glasgow. Our organisation is entirely volunteer led - mostly by volunteers who are or have been in the asylum system themselves.

Our group has grown over the past 12 years and for 3 years now we have been a charity. We are proud of all we have achieved as a unique group led by and for LGBT people seeking asylum and safety in the UK.

We have more members than ever and our group has reached capacity at 200+ members. No one in our group is turned away for lack of funds and we provide travel costs for people to make every meeting. This is hard for us to sustain on grants alone. We provide essential mental health, food and advocacy support as well as creating an environment of peer support where people can make friends and build a new life in Glasgow.

We have had to stop taking new referrals even though demand is higher than ever. Your donations, whatever amount, will help us to keep going and to support the queer people arriving every day in Glasgow to seek safety and find community.

We know that queer people face significant and multiple barriers to seeking asylum. They are dehumanised by a hostile environment where they are questioned and mistrusted, often people are excluded from mainstream services. It is essential that queer people seeking asylum have spaces run by them and for them. Please help us to keep providing this space.
