Help Lexi Walk Again!

Hi everyone! This is Nic and Emma's family jumping in to make sure we can help Lexi walk again.

At 7pm Saturday 31 August, Lexi Dog (3) was hit by a car--not far from her new home and new backyard. From the accident, Lexi has suffered a shattered L7 (the last vertebrae in her spine), major torso and lung bruising, and some cuts and bruises.

After 2 days in hospital and a neurologist review, it is clear that Lexi is going to need spinal surgery to repair and stabilise her lower back. While her back legs are still functional, she will not be able to walk or have a quality of life (due to pain, nerve compression, and destabilization) without the surgery. Her long-term post operative prognosis looks good and includes walking, running, no long-term pain, and at least another decade of life with her family.

In the first 48-hours we have totalled $8K in medical bills--our specialist team has confirmed it will be another +$10K to undergo surgery and remain in hospital recovery for a few days post-op, with the expected total cost to be $20K.

We have run the numbers of this and want to reach out to our friends, family, and wider community who all hold a special place in their heart for Lexi. Every contribution to help us manage this critical week would be welcomed. It's a lofty goal but with $100 from 100 family and friends, we can contribute $10,000 toward the surgery. Without a doubt, every option and outcome has been considered and we know this is the right choice for Lexi and her family, and to return her to a healthy young life.
