Meet Lexi, a gentle and loving Vets To Vets United service dog graduate who supports her veteran mom and enriches her community as a therapy dog, playing a remarkable role in supporting families during childbirth.
In 2020, as the pandemic shifted many births from hospitals to homes, Wanda—a professional doula—began noticing the emotional toll this change had on families. That’s when she started bringing Lexi along to provide comfort and support. What began as a simple idea has blossomed into something truly special.
Today, Lexi is the ideal doula’s companion—a calm, intuitive presence who brings peace, love, and emotional grounding to birthing families. During active labor, some mothers find comfort in simply petting her. For others, Lexi entertains restless children—or even helps keep the family pet calm—so that everyone in the room can feel more at ease.
She loves being the center of attention and always seems to know exactly where she’s needed most. Her presence enables Wanda to create a soothing and nurturing environment, helping families navigate one of the most powerful and vulnerable moments of their lives.
But now, Lexi needs us.
She’s seriously ill and requires urgent veterinary care for an acute medical condition involving her pancreas. The cost of the treatment is $5,500, and her veteran mom, Wanda, who has devoted her life to caring for others, simply can’t afford it alone.
Lexi has spent the last four years giving comfort, calm, and companionship when it’s needed most. Now it’s our turn to support her.
Every dollar helps—whether it’s $5 or $50. And if you’re unable to give right now, please consider sharing Lexi’s story to help us reach others who can.
Let’s get Lexi back on her paws—so she can keep doing what she loves: bringing peace, joy, and healing to growing families.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
