Lexi has been a part of our family since she was just eight weeks old. She was the last one born and the runt of the litter, but from the moment we saw her, we knew she was coming home with us. Lexi is an affectionate dog who helps hold our family together. She loves her toys, her golf cart rides, and everyone she interacts with—her joyful spirit brings happiness to all who know her.

Yesterday, for reasons we still don’t understand, Lexi suddenly began yelping in pain and her legs stopped working. We stayed up with her through the night, comforting her as best we could, and brought her to the emergency vet in Richmond as soon as we could. After an MRI, the vet told us there was a 40% chance Lexi would walk again, a 40% chance she would not, and a 20% chance that she would both not be able to walk and be in pain. We made the difficult decision to attempt surgery, hoping to give Lexi the best chance at recovery. The surgery seems to have gone well, but Lexi is still not out of the woods yet and her future remains uncertain. Lexis will be five years old on January 24, 2026.

We have taken out a loan to pay for Lexi’s emergency medical care, and we expect there will be additional costs when she comes home, including medications to help keep her pain down while she heals. We may also need to build a ramp to help her recover and regain her independence. Both her daddy and I are on disability and a fixed income, so an unexpected expense like this feels very daunting. Lexi means the world to us, and we would do anything we can to save her and give her the best quality of life she may still have.
