Help Lexi get a new knee ✨

Hi everyone, I’m Meredith, and this is a fundraiser for TPLO (knee) surgery for Lexi, an 8 year old German Shepherd/Lab mix.

In June I saw a Facebook post about Lexi, who, though healthy, was scheduled to be euthanized the following day. Lexi’s primary owner passed away unexpectedly in December 2023, and without other options, her owner’s widow made his decision. I picked Lexi up that same evening, convinced I could find a better outcome for her.

Lexi trotted into my car like we were old friends, and her mellow, sweet spirit made me melt. I observed some apparent stiffness in her right leg even though she maintained the prettiest angel smile I had ever seen. She still runs at the park and chases waves at the beach, but Lexi is in pain. I consulted her vet records and found a 2021 estimate for knee surgery that her previous owners never ended up getting for her. I understood why — it’s a costly surgery that few pet owners are seldom really prepared for.

These days, Lexi is being fostered by my pals Beth and Delia in Oakland, and they’ve decided to make things official and adopt her! Unfortunately, when left untreated, a TPLO tear in one leg can cause the same injury in the opposite leg, and that’s the case for Lexi. Together with their veterinarian, Beth and Delia have decided to fix up Lexi’s more recently injured knee so she can get around on three good legs in her golden years.
