Lex is a 27 year old oncology nurse from Oakland who was diagnosed with ocular melanoma last year and subsequently had to leave her job to pursue radiation and surgery. Lex just found out her cancer spread, and she has now been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Additionally, her unemployment benefits have been exhausted and she is losing current health insurance coverage that was from her work, severely increasing costs of treatment she needs to survive.
As a result of treatment, Lex is unable to drive and must rely on rideshare services for all appointments and errands. And as of now, she will be in treatment for the next 2 years.
Lex is currently awaiting a decision for her disability claim. She has been able to get by with a small amount of savings and sick pay hours donated by previous coworkers. Yet, between the cost of insurance she will need to cover her immunotherapy treatments, and rent, she is not left with enough money to cover the cost of rides, medicine, food, phone and utility bills, and other basic needs moving forward.
Aside from being an extremely passionate and talented nurse, Lex radically cares for others in all areas of her life and has a reputation for being a fierce and outspoken advocate, community organizer, and friend. Everyone deserves to have what they need - and I do not want Lex to ever live in fear of losing her housing and healthcare or wonder if she will be able to buy groceries or pay for a ride to her cancer treatments.
Lex is now the one in need of help and radical community care.
Please donate if you are able to, and share with others wherever you can. If you prefer to donate through Venmo instead, her Venmo is @salty-lex.
Thank you all so much
