We are trying to raise some money for Lewis to get transport to collage.
here’s the back story…
in 2023/24 Bury council decided to stop transport for disabled children aged 16+
offering a different support they decided that 44p to the mile would be enough to get disabled children to and from collage! This works out at £3.40 per journey. The journey cost £50.00 per day by taxi to get Lewis to and from collage.
going to collage means everything to Lewis, it’s his independence and his lifeline and place where he can see friends of his own outside his family home. The council taking this away from him restricts his life massively!
people may ask… why can’t you take him?
I have 2 other children who attend a school in Salford as we live in Prestwich this is a journey my children just couldn’t just walk too they do need to be taken.
all 3 of my children start and finish at the same time so I physically cannot be in 2 places at one and the council see it as “ well Lewis doesn’t need to attend collage, it isn’t mandatory for him to attend”
No! It’s not but it is a lifeline for him and some sort of freedom. He depends on people to transport him from place to place as he isn’t able todo this alone, his wheelchair in manual and he cannot exactly get the bus to where he needs to go.
even £1 would help! I have made a petition to try and have the decision overturned because Lewis isn’t the only child who will suffer now that transport has been removed! This is thousands of children’s life’s being messed with because the council have decided to cut DISABLED Children’s Budget.
if you cannot donate, that’s completely fine also but I do ask that you share for anyone who reached the end of this, shared or donated I am forever grateful
I just want my child to have some sort of freedom away from home that is his own time with his friends.
Thank you.
