Just hours before his accident, Lewis was joking with his dad whilst on holiday in Greece.
His dad laughed and told him that if he kept up his cheek he could get his own flight home.
Lewis replied:
“I’ll start a GoFundMe. #BringBroHome”
At the time, it was just Lewis being Lewis. We all laughed.
None of us could have imagined how quickly that joke would become reality.
Lewis, aged 27, was involved in a serious accident whilst on holiday in Greece and was rushed to hospital, where he remains under specialist care.
The days that followed were some of the hardest our family and friends have ever experienced. Lewis spent an extended period in intensive care, required a ventilator, and developed pneumonia during his recovery.
For a while, all we could do was wait, hope and pray.
Thankfully, Lewis has continued to make encouraging progress. He is now becoming increasingly aware of the people around him, recognising family and responding to simple instructions. Seeing those signs of recovery has given all of us renewed hope and strength.
Although Lewis is improving, his recovery is far from over. He still faces ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, treatment for his jaw injuries, and a journey home to the UK when his doctors believe he is fit to travel.
Unfortunately, Lewis did not have travel insurance. We have explored every possible avenue available to us, including banks, insurers and travel providers, but no cover exists for the costs associated with his recovery and return home.
The funds raised will be used to support Lewis and his family through the next stage of his recovery. This includes accommodation costs in Greece whilst he remains under medical care, flights and travel arrangements to return home, treatment and follow-up care for his jaw injuries, rehabilitation expenses, and other necessary costs directly related to his recovery.
We are committed to being completely transparent with everyone who has supported Lewis. If circumstances change and any donor would like to discuss their contribution, please feel free to contact us.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, sent messages of support or simply kept Lewis in their thoughts.
Your support has helped us through the most difficult days imaginable, and we cannot thank you enough.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page.
Thank you for helping us bring Lewis home.
#BringBroHome ❤️
