Hi, I’m Chloe and I’m Lauren best friend. Lauren was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at 15, she has endured multiple invasive treatments along the way, including chemotherapy. All treatments failed to put Lauren into remission leading to her bowel perforating, sending her into an episode of sepsis, resulting in her needing an ileostomy.
At 20, Lauren underwent further major surgery to make her ileostomy permanent, unfortunately leading to a further septic episode. Multiple major abdominal surgeries later, with multiple surgical errors, led to her being diagnosed with intestinal failure. As a result Lauren was placed on TPN (total parenteral nutrition) through a central line, meaning she is completely dependent on all nutrition and medication being fed through a central line to her heart.
In addition to this, Lauren has a PEG drain in her stomach for all oral intake of fluids which is drained continuously out of her system.
Over the last year or so Lauren has experienced a huge amount of medical negligence which has led to multiple septic shock episodes due to infections in her central line, resulting in spending 16 out of the past 18 months in hospital, many of which were in ICU. More recently Lauren has been admitted to ICU for septic shock from her bowel directly, which now cannot be reversed.
In this most recent admission, Lauren has received some absolutely devastating news. Lauren has been told that they will place one last central line and when this line goes septic she will be placed on end of life care. Lauren has not managed to last longer than 2.5 months without sepsis in her central line, meaning she has been placed on palliative care and her time left will be short and uncertain.
Lauren has fought against her illnesses and sepsis for so long and in such an admirable way, we are all so proud of her and what she’s managed to achieve despite having the odds against her. I’ve set up this GoFund Me page to help towards giving Lauren and her loved ones some precious final memories without having to worry about costs as this is a very difficult time for them all. Due to Lauren’s health she has been unable to work and her close family have had to take a lot of time off work, so any little help towards costs will hopefully make a huge amount of difference and mean the world to Lauren and her loved ones, so she can focus on living the rest of her limited time left with everyone.
