Help Leslie Hair kick Cancer

Leslie and Denny Hair have spent their lives in service to others. In August of 2019, Leslie became ill with gallbladder issues. After removing her gallbladder, tests showed that Leslie suffered from a rare cancer of the bile duct in her liver. The only cure was a liver transplant, and she was placed on the transplant waiting list. She was forced to leave her job nursing and the insurance available to the Hairs at the time would only cover a small portion of the costs associated with a transplant. Leslie’s condition worsened, and she was unable to continue working at all. This reduced the family income even more and the medical bills began to grow, and even Community Care Insurance did not cover the related costs.

Denny was a Houston Police officer for over 30 years and Leslie a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years as well. Leslie worked with HIV and AIDS patients in the 80s and continued to care for the critically ill for Tomball Regional Hospital, treating patients too sick to travel to the doctor’s office or clinic at their home.

Her condition prior to the transplant required several surgeries to sustain her until a transplant could be found. COVID complicated this as well. In August of 2021 a match was found, and Leslie got the answer to their prayers and received a new liver. Afterwards, she required two additional surgeries to clear up complications from the transplant surgery. Now on the road to recovery, Leslie’s immune system is very fragile making any return to hands on nursing impossible.

With the medical bills enormous, and the normal bills still present, the debt of the Hair family is staggering. After a life of serving others Denny and Leslie are at risk of losing everything they have built for their retirement years. The need for help is real and immediate.
