The storm that swept through our city a few weeks ago left our family facing unimaginable losses. My parents have lived on this street for over 40 years, and in a single night, more than 60 years of belongings and memories were destroyed. A sewage backup filled our basement with over nine feet of water, reaching into the first floor and leaving our home uninhabitable. Most of our furniture and possessions are gone, and my dad, before retiring, was a mechanic, lost a lifetime’s worth of tools. Both vehicles were damaged, and we’ve had to relocate and find alternative shelter while trying to recover.

Despite the clear cause, our insurance company has denied our claim, leaving us to shoulder the financial burden alone. The damage is already over $30,000 and the impact has been life-changing.

Through it all, our community has shown incredible strength. Neighbors and friends have come together to help each other, reminding us that we can get through anything when we stand united. While we focus on rebuilding our lives, we are also committed to helping rebuild the community we’ve called home for decades. I want to thank everyone that has helped us during everything.
