Help Leroy on his Cancer Journey

Leroy LeFort and his wife Wanda live in Margaree Cape Breton and have two beautiful daughters -Darcie and Hailee....Leroy’s journey began last September when he was struck with severe abdominal pain which resulted in numerous hospital stays, diagnosis of diverticulitis, two major surgeries and a temporary ostomy  - all of which resulted in him not being able to return to his job in Nunavut.  Sadly,  his journey was to be extended when on November 5th the news came of the word no one wants to hear...CANCER....he would require 12 chemo treatments , two weeks apart which meant 6 months of treatments; however, these treatments only began early January due to various infections not clearing up. So far, treatments are going fairly well; however, after his 6th treatment they will do a CT scan to see how things look and at the end of all the treatments the route is unknown at this time; however, he will at some point after all treatments need another surgery to reverse the ostomy that he had put in last Fall. Looking ahead his return to work will be as late as the Fall of this year and maybe later.  Leroy’s employment insurance sick benefits ran out after 15 weeks which is now long gone. They are currently living on a small savings and Wanda’s income from part-time work and EI which as we all know does not go very far.  We all know that Wanda and Leroy would do whatever they could for someone in need in our community if the shoe was on the other foot -Wanda being a very active member of Margaree Kinettes, serving our community’s greatest need for over 20 years.  With COVID upon us, we are unable to have our normal community fundraisers as we normally would to help the LeFort family which leads us to be reaching out to our community to help in whatever way we can.  We thank you in advance for your generosity.
