My name is Nivethith Chellaiya, and I am a close family friend of Leonshan and his parents.

I’ve known them for many years, and I’ve witnessed the strength and courage they’ve shown while caring for their son, who suffers from a rare and painful bone condition.

I’m starting this fundraiser on their behalf to help cover Leonshan’s urgent medical needs.

Who is LeonShan?

LeonShan is a brave and kind 15-year-old boy from Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, living with a rare and painful condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease. This genetic disorder makes his bones extremely fragile, causing frequent fractures, spinal deformities, and ongoing pain.

He was diagnosed when he was just a few weeks old, and since then, his life has been a continuous journey of hospital visits, treatments, and surgeries.

His Medical Journey

LeonShan has been receiving treatment at Teaching Hospital Batticaloa for over 15 years. Every three months, he undergoes intravenous pamidronate sodium injections, which help strengthen his bones and reduce the risk of fractures. However, he still suffers from spinal deformities and frequent bone breaks.

His most recent X-ray shows a severe spinal curvature, and his doctors say that he will likely need complex orthopedic surgery and long-term care to prevent permanent disability.

LeonShan’s parents are doing everything they can, but the medical costs have become overwhelming. The total estimated cost of treatment, surgery, and post-surgical care is LKR 4 million (approx. USD 12,000).
