We are raising funds to help a very special little girl in Bolivia named Leonor and her family. Leonor is the younger sister of our child’s birth mother. Our hearts are deeply connected to her and her family, and we want to find a way to help them during this incredibly difficult time.
Leonor is only seven years old and has been living with serious kidney and bladder complications since birth. Her left kidney is severely atrophied and likely has very limited function. Her right kidney has grown larger to compensate, meaning it is doing the work of both kidneys. She also has a neurogenic bladder, which causes problems with emptying her bladder properly. Because of this, she must live with a catheter, which sometimes becomes blocked. When that happens, fluid builds up, causing her extreme pain and requiring emergency trips to the hospital.
Doctors are now trying to “reactivate” her kidney and prevent her from losing it completely. She needs further testing, including an MRI, to determine the next steps and whether surgery is possible. However, medical care in Bolivia is expensive, especially for families with limited resources. Even basic necessities like rice, sugar, and cooking supplies are costly. Leonor’s mother prepares food to sell to raise money for tests and treatments, but despite her hard work, she recently raised only 2,700 bolivianos (about $316). After paying back a loan of 2,500 bolivianos, she was left with almost nothing. Now they are pleading with the hospital to lower the price of the MRI so Leonor can receive the care she desperately needs. Her family is facing impossible choices between food, medical bills, and basic survival.
Through this GoFundMe, we hope to lift some of that burden. The funds raised will go toward:
Medical tests such as an MRI and follow-up evaluations
Catheter supplies and emergency hospital visits
Medications and possible surgical planning
Basic necessities like food and household needs
Every donation, no matter the size, is a step toward easing Leonor’s pain and giving her a chance at a healthier future. Your support means the absolute world to us and our son's biological family.
