I'm Leonie Miller, a resident of New Market, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and I'm reaching out for help after hurricane Melissa left me and my family completely depressed and shattered, trying to put the pieces together. The hurricane destroyed the board houses of my families, and we're now crowded into one small room with a makeshift tarpaulin roof. We've lost everything - our windows, roofing, mattresses, refrigerator, stove, television... the list goes on.
Despite the challenges, I'm determined to rebuild and create a safer future for my family. My plan is to deck the rooftop instead of re-roofing so we can better withstand future hurricanes and thunderstorms. The place is now a shadow of what we call home. Any assistance, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. As we say in Jamaica, "one one cocoa full basket" - every little bit helps. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer."
