Life is so fragile, it can change so quickly in a matter of an instant. My name is Paola and I want to share my family’s story with you.
I still remember it like it was yesterday - one moment my husband Leonardo was getting a head scan and the next we were sitting in front of a neurosurgeon discussing brain surgery - he had a brain tumor that had to be removed. Within a week, the tumor was removed and the surgery was a complete success. We were so relieved but unfortunately, a follow-up scan later confirmed that the tumor is now growing back.…it turns out that he has grade IV brain cancer and it’s very aggressive.
As we all know, traditional chemotherapy and radiation have brutal side effects. It is incredibly heartbreaking to hear a doctor tell you about all the issues that your husband will have after these treatments, some even irreversible. So with a lot of faith and hope, we opted to follow an alternative treatment with a doctor who has successfully treated stage IV brain cancer for decades.
Unfortunately, health insurance doesn’t cover this type of treatment, which is incredibly costly, so we find ourselves relying solely on community support and your generosity. His treatment will last at least 8 months and your support will help improve his long-term prognosis.
His treatment is intensive and integrative. Beyond multiple doctors’ appointments, it consists of many medications and daily infusions. I am his main caretaker as well as a stay-at-home mother to our daughter Sofía. Leonardo was the only working parent, and he’s currently unable to work.
We’re not just asking for money, we’re asking for his life to be extended as much as possible. Leonardo turned 40 this year and he has so much life ahead of him. He wants to see our daughter grow through her teenage years and beyond, she turns 9 this year.
Your donation will directly support Leonardo’s journey as he fights brain cancer. Please join us during this challenging time so that he knows he’s not alone in this fight. Any amount is greatly appreciated, from the bottom of our hearts.
