Help Leon Get A Service Dog
This is me (right) and my friend Jack. I have struggled with mental illness and suicidal ideation since childhood, including cPTSD, Persistent Depression, history of eating disorder, substance abuse issues, and a whole slew of other diagnostic labels. I am also autistic. After my best friend died in June, I relapsed with a lot of my issues and my symptoms worsened. I also have physical health issues including POTS and fibromyalgia. In January 2023, I stopped being able to work. I'm trying to get a psychiatric service dog to help me improve my health.
Since I'm waiting for disability from Social Security, I currently have no means of income to pay for a dog. The dog would help me with agoraphobia, disassociation while driving, panic attacks, deep pressure therapy, nightmares, alert to fainting, encourage me to exercise while depressed, interrupt self harm and negative stims, and just give me a little friend to accompany me and give me confidence :]
I got approved for a program and signed a contract with Joys of Living Assistance Dogs to be matched with a dog as one becomes available. While these dogs are being trained they practice socializing with and performing tasks for incarcerated people in Oregon.
I'm turning 21 this March and would appreciate money towards my service dog as a birthday present. Coincidentally, the initial downpayment is due the day after my birthday, on the 15th.
The dogs already in my life provide a lot of joy and at times the idea of having a service dog or caring for a dog has been the only thing keeping me going.
