Léon is 2.5 years old and normally full of energy, always running around and playing with his older brother. But today something wasn’t right. As the hours passed, he began to feel worse and worse, until we had no choice but to take him to the hospital.

There, doctors discovered fluid in his abdomen and around his lungs, but at first they didn’t know what was causing it. Because his condition was so serious, Léon was transferred by ambulance to another hospital, where he was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit.

After many urgent tests, the devastating cause became clear. Léon’s heart is severely ill and is no longer able to pump enough blood through his body. His little body had already started to go into early organ failure. The doctors told us that if we had arrived just a few hours later, the outcome could have been very different.

In the ICU, Léon was placed in a medically induced coma and is now being supported by a ventilator. The doctors have managed to stabilize him for now, but his heart is too weak to provide his lungs and the rest of his body with enough blood and oxygen.

The heartbreaking news is that Léon will need a heart transplant. His little heart is irreversibly damaged and cannot recover.

Right now, we are living moment by moment and holding on to hope for our little boy.

We are incredibly grateful for the doctors and nurses who are doing everything they can for him.
