Leo’s fight against Vestibular Disease

Hello! Thank you for taking to read our story about my fiancé and I’s fur baby Leo. Leo is our very first dog together aka our baby that we love so much. He is also Claudine’s Emotional/Service Animal! If you’ve ever met our 3 year old baby you’ll know him as the sweetest and most gentle soul. Leo is the always full of energy, affection and always chooses treats over toys. Leo always wakes us up in the morning for his cuddles before our busy days and gives us comfort through tough times. Leo is currently suffering with Vestibular Disease. Vestibular disease is a a sudden, non-progressive disturbance of balance. Right now he is experiencing a sudden onset of loss of balance ( can’t stand or walk without support ), disorientation, head tilt, and irregular jerking eye movements called nystagmus. On July 13, in the morning right before work, Leo was found shaking, unresponsive, eyes moving rapidly, no ability to walk/stand and was vomiting out bile. As quick as I could, I grabbed my keys and rushed him to the Emergency Vet. His first trip to the ER we spent an amount of $725.55 for exam, treatment to take care of the symptoms & meds. We also spent $164 on a stroller to help with taking him out to potty and to make it easier to move him without causing pain. The following morning July 14, Leo started shrieking in pain (whether he has touched or not) randomly throughout the day, within the 48hrs after visiting the ER he showed no interest in food or water— once again he was brought to the ER and his primary vet.  After being examined, the doctor prescribed more meds and suggested we could hospitalize him but that would be $3k every two days or we can bring home meds and  if he doesn’t get any better he would need to see a neurologist. $136.46 was spent for the meds and $60 for fluids. Now that it’s been 4 days and syringe feeding Leo, he is not able to walk/stand without stumbling and needs full support going potty (currently wears a diaper). With high hopes we are praying that Leo gets better within the 1-2 weeks time frame given and being prepared for the worst, we’ve already scheduled an appointment for him to see a Neurologist. All neurologist appointments are booked from August-October and he won’t be seen until August 9. We were told these appointments which includes consultation MRI can range from $3800-$5000+. Within a 4 day period we’ve spent $1086.91.

Asking for help is something we didn’t want to do and aren’t used to, but this is something that was very unexpected for us and something we can’t afford. We’re doing everything in our power to help and keep him alive. We are still in disbelief that he was a healthy 3 yr old energized pup to needing full on support. It breaks our heart seeing him in pain and not his usual self. It would mean the world to us if you can donate a $1, or even share with your friends and family. We will be forever grateful!
