Help Leo Stay Free After 51 Days in ICE Custody

Donation protected
After 51 days in ICE custody, my friend Leo is finally home—but he now faces a critical week that will determine his future.

My name is Jared, and I’m writing this on behalf of Leo, someone I’ve known for nearly 18 years through construction work and now consider a close friend. Leo is a Mexican citizen who has been living in the United States since 1999—and importantly, he has no criminal record of any kind.

Shortly after arriving in the U.S., Leo began a relationship with the woman who would later become his wife. They have been together for approximately 25 to 26 years and were married in 2011. Together, they have a 22-year-old son who is a U.S. citizen. Leo also helped raise her two children from a previous relationship, supporting and providing for them for over two decades as part of his family.

For more than 25 years, Leo has built his life here. He has worked consistently, paid taxes through his own registered business, and supported his family every step of the way. He has made multiple efforts over the years to pursue legal status, but those efforts were never fully completed due to complicated personal and legal circumstances.

In February, Leo was pulled over for a routine speeding ticket. During that stop, ICE was called to the scene, and he was taken into custody. What followed was an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for him and everyone who cares about him.

Today, Leo was released thanks to an outstanding team of attorneys who took on his habeas corpus case pro bono. While this is a major step forward, his situation is far from resolved.

Leo’s bond hearing is next week, and he must have funds ready immediately to remain out of detention while his case proceeds. His bond is expected to be between $1,000 and $5,000.

Funds raised will go directly toward Leo’s bond and immediate legal expenses as he continues his immigration case, including ongoing work on his EOIR-42B (Cancellation of Removal) and any potential appeals. The total legal costs ahead could reach tens of thousands of dollars, but right now, the most urgent need is securing his bond.

Every contribution—no matter the size—helps ensure Leo can stay out of detention and continue fighting his case with proper legal support.

Leo is one of the hardest-working and most genuine people I know. He has spent decades building a life here, supporting his family, and doing things the right way. Now he needs help.

If you’re able to support Leo during this critical moment, please consider donating. And if you’re not in a position to give, sharing this page would mean just as much.

Thank you for standing with Leo.
