Help Leo Stand Strong: Support His Recovery
Leo was born about a month early and wasn’t accepted immediately by his mom. Her milk hadn’t come in yet and she was a first time mom not fully sure of what to do. He was too weak to stand on his own and so we took him under our care, got him colostrum we had on hand from our cow and tube and/or bottle fed him around the clock every two hours.
To make sure he had the right antibodies we brought him into the vet for a plasma transfusion.
Shortly after, we found wounds on his elbows from his struggles to stand.
We did our best to clean and bandage them and took him back to the vet at our first opportunity. He was showing signs of sepsis likely from the open wounds.
We’ve been treating him with twice daily antibiotics, physical therapy, and feeding him both by bottle and assisted nursing.
Unfortunately even though his immune system is stable his tendons are still so stiff despite stretching that the only thing left to do is have the vet create a cast (because of the positioning a regular splint won’t do) and she said this is a Hail Mary chance he’s got.
It’s not cheap and we’ve got lots of vet visits ahead with this guy and continued around the clock care, but as long as he’s fighting, we’re not going to give up on him.
We appreciate any support you provide - we want to save this little guy so bad. The odds are against him but we believe he’s got the will to pull through!
