Leo is an active 15 year old that has been fighting type 1 diabetes since he was 4 years old. He loves music, skateboarding, and video gaming. He’s been using an insulin pump for many years now and it’s time to get a new one!
Research shows that people who
consistently use insulin pumps paired with continuous glucose monitors (CGM for short) have better blood sugar (BG) control and fewer long term complications. The new insulin pump we are trying to get will communicate with his current CGM and be able to automatically dose insulin if Leo’s BG starts to rise.
Insulin pumps typically cost $5000-$8000 without insurance. Unfortunately our insurance won’t cover any costs until our deductible is reached in any given year. We are hoping to get this new pump as soon as possible to help Leo have better control of his BG as he grows and becomes active in marching band and other physical activities. Thank you for your support!
