On the night of August 15, 2026 Leo and Hermie were woken from bed with a loud bang followed by rushing flood water quickly filling their home. The gulch located behind their home overflowed and broke their back door in half. With no exit route, massive floodwater quickly filled their home. Leo, the survivor that he is broke the front window to escape the rising waters. Hawaii firefighters were called and rescued my elderly parents. At that moment, Hurricane Lala wiped out Leo and Hermie Norberte’s home and family coffee business.

The Norbertes have lived in that home for more than 30 years, and after the storm, they lost nearly everything except the clothes hanging in the closet. This is the home their family has known since the 1980s, a place that has long been a gathering space for family and friends. Leo is an amazing cook who loves feeding and welcoming guests, and together Leo and Hermie not only built a loving home, but also a thriving coffee business that reflects their hard work, care, and dedication. Their award-winning product is loved by many, and their customers have been a joyful part of their lives for years. Since this devastation Leo and Hermie have been displaced from their home and business has come to a halt.

Joann is raising funds to help her parents Leo and Hermie rebuild both their family home and the coffee business that they worked their entire lives to create. Donations will help replace essential appliances, furniture, cabinetry, and household goods, while also helping restore the processing area needed to bring their coffee harvest back to life. Most of their farmland survived the hurricane, but without the processing plant within their home, the harvest cannot be used.
