Lennie is scheduled for reconstruction of his jaw on May 20, 2021 at U.C., San Francisco.  He is scheduled for a 14 hour surgery where they will remove the metal plate from his jaw and then take a bone from his leg, along with surrounding muscle, skin and the supplying vessels and reconstruct his jaw.  The vessels will provide circulation in his jaw.  

Lennie was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2006.  He underwent radiation and chemotherapy for six weeks.  Due to the treatment his jaw started to disintegrate and his carotid arteries became fragile.  The fragile arteries caused him to have a stroke.  A metal plate was placed on his jaw to help with the dying of the jaw.  He experienced 2 to 3 infections in his jaw including the metal plate being exposed to air.  Lennie underwent hyperbaric oxygen treatments for the damage and infections to the bone, and then removed his teeth.  While preparing for jaw surgery they discovered blockage in his heart which resulted in open-heart surgery in 2018.  Also he was kicked by a horse and ended up having to be hospitalized for his injuries.  He has now been approved for jaw surgery.

Lennie is self-employed as a floor installer.  Lennie's recovery will be at least three months and he won't be able to get back doing what he loves, shooting his bow and riding horses, for some time.
