Hi, my name is Liza, and I am Lemon's mom.
Lemon just turned five on June 4. Up until a couple of months ago, Lemon was a strong and healthy girl. She's incredibly smart and loving and brings joy to everyone that she comes in contact with. She is a Daddy's girl who enjoys spending time with her brother and sister in the yard.
Lemon had been feeling unwell for a while, but our vet thought she had stomach issues and bad allergies. So we were sent home with medication, and Lemon seemed to be getting better for a while.
Over the Memorial Day holiday, one of Lemon's eyes started to swell up, and we knew something was very wrong, so we took her to the Emergency clinic. After a long day of testing, it turned out that they could not figure out what was going on, and they referred us to a specialty hospital and told us to take her there the following day.
So that is what we did, and it quickly became obvious that something was very wrong with our little girl. Unfortunately, on June 1, we received the diagnosis that Lemon has Lymphoma. Once we met with the oncologist, it was clear that because of how Lemon's Lymphoma was presenting, our regular vet and the clinic could not have known that Lemon had cancer.
Lemon is currently undergoing chemo, and so far, we have spent over $7,500.00 (which we had to put mostly on credit cards) on Lemon. And most of this was to figure out what was really wrong. She has received two rounds of treatments, and today she was given her first dose of a chemotherapy pill. Next Monday, 6/19, she will go in for what the Dr. described as her first long infusion.
We were just told that we must find a pet ophthalmologist to treat her eye.
Like many people, our financial situation is fragile at best. My husband has a salaried job, but I am freelance, and the past year has been tough. This sudden expense is not something that we can afford on our own. That is why even though it is hard, we are asking for help.
Lemon is being treated by Dr. Baez at Eclipse Speciality & Emergency Pet Care in Whippany, NJ, for her Lymphoma. Dr. Baez said that due to Lemon's age, she thinks Lemon deserves a chance to battle this disease, and so do we.
Any money raised will be used to pay for Lemon's medical bills and chemotherapy. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
